Minor: fine arts (Studio)
OWU Login Live: Summer course on the Cuyahoga
Fish spends the summer living and working in the Cleveland, Ohio area, where she is a marketing and special projects intern for the Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC). The nonprofit group strives to recruit talented students and help them explore professional, civic, and social opportunities in Cleveland and northeast Ohio. Its goal is to bring some of the students back after graduation to live and work in the area.
Ohio Wesleyan is one of nine colleges and universities nationwide whose students are eligible to complete internships coordinated by Summer on the Cuyahoga. In her role at SOTC, Fish manages her social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn); uses graphic design skills to create flyers, social media posts, conversation cards, and other items; and provides programming support to staff.
My favorite moment
“My favorite moment so far has been being able to attend various events with other interns from different schools. It has been interesting to learn about the cultural differences on each college campus.
“Thanks to this internship, I was able to improve my graphic design skills by creating content outside of my graphic design course. One of my supervisors is a graphic designer and she helped me a lot with quick tips and tricks.
“I also learned how to better manage social media through the creation of a social media calendar. This will help me specifically with my extracurricular activities on campus, where I manage the social media accounts for a few organizations on campus, including The Transcript (student newspaper) and the Panhellenic Council.
Celebrate the city
“Cleveland has been great. It’s a decent sized city with enough to do and experience without feeling too big and overwhelming. I really enjoyed discovering all the different boba (bubble tea) places.”
My OWU Career Login
” I worked with Mindy Agin (assistant director of internships and externships) this past semester to help me get an internship. I doubt I would be where I am now without his help. I also had various other Career Connection members help me improve my resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile. The Career Connection office as a whole is a fantastic resource that every student should take advantage of while at OWU.
Why I Chose Ohio Wesleyan
“I chose OWU because of the financial aid which was offered to me. »
My plans after graduation
“After I graduate, I hope to do something with graphic design and/or social media…kind of a creative aspect. OWU has helped me achieve my goals through my classes and extracurricular activities on campus. The skills learned from these two things will be the ones I can use in the workplace. »
